Beccles were able to field a decent squad for this must win game. Holmes returned at No.8 for his first appearance of the season. In the back three the Arnold brothers linked up with Loader.
Beccles started the game poorly and let Wymondham in for an early try after some missed tackles allowed them through. The start of the second half was tight with both sides being forced in to errors and the match being dominated by scrums. Wymondham added a penalty to stretch their lead before another try put them in control of the game leading 22-8.
Beccles pushed to come back and a yellow card to Wymondham centre gave them a numerical advantage. Matt Arnold cut through the defence for a try which Gedney converted. As the game moved in to the last five minutes Beccles needed two more scores
A good break from Larkworthy in the Beccles half saw him feed Holtzer with 40m still to go to the line. Gedney missed the difficult conversion leaving Beccles needing another try.
Beccles pushed from the kick off but gave away a penalty which Wymondham converted. Beccles needed to collect the restart but couldn't get the ball back and the final whistle went with the score at 25-20.
Man of the match was Fobbester.
This was meant to be the last game of the 1st phase of the league competition but Beccles still have two games to play due to a couple of postponements before Christmas. They now need two wins to finish in the top two and have a chance of playing for promotion. They face a tough game against unbeaten league leaders North Walsham IIs on Saturday before travelling to Lowestoft the following week.
