The game started with Wisbech on the front foot. This early pressure was rewarded when Beccles infringed at the breakdown, giving Wisbech an early penalty. Beccles immediately replied through Yeowell kicking behind the defence for Frost to collect and put down over the line.
Beccles continued to pressure the visitors. A series of infringements for offside from Wisbech allowed Harmer to slot two penalties in quick succession. Wisbech got themselves back into the game with a well worked chip over the defence from their fly-half, and was in turn finished off by their full back. Beccles found themselves with good position in the opposition twenty-two. Patient forward play was rewarded when Ling crashed over from close range.
The second half began with Beccles on the front foot, strong running from Long and Hoffman proving to be effective. A further try from the home side soon followed when Goode found Geyser on the outside who in turn put Yeowell through in the corner. Wisbech to their credit stuck at the task in hand and were rewarded though their strong driven line-out, which earned them two tries in quick succession.
In a passage of open play, Nelson found a gap in the defence to score under the posts, earning the home side a winning bonus point. The Beccles backs then started to play with the precision and promise that they showed in pre season. Harmer capped off a solid display, hitting a hard angle to score the fifth try. Wisbech looked certain to seal a consolation try when their full back caught an interception only for B&B Skip Hire Man of the Match Jake Yeowell to make a vital chasing tackle.
Next week Beccles travel to newly promoted Wymondham.
