Beccles had already secured the league title the previous week but were looking to remain unbeaten in the second phase of the league this season. The team were cheered on by a bus full of supporters.
Beccles started well and were soon in the lead when Hannam broke through and fed Kauri who had an easy run in for the first try. Kauri added the conversion and then soon after added another try when he found space down the blindside.
The tries kept coming. First it was Hannam’s turn to get on the scoresheet. Then Ashdown scored his first try of the season after a good run through a couple of defenders. Beccles went in to the break leading 26 – 0.
Beccles continued the scoring in the second half. Hannam added his second of the game. Colchester then pulled one back.
As the game moved towards the end spaces began to open up. Harrison burst down his wing to go over for a try. Colchester added their second. The final score went to Beccles when Gooney went down the same channel to add his first try of the season.
Kauri finished with five conversions and Man of the Match was Harrison.
This was a good end to a great season for Beccles. They won both of the league competitions they were in and will be promoted to London 3 Eastern Counties next season. After developing well this season the team will be looking to carry this on next season in the higher league.
Beccles have a week off before both teams travel to Southwold for the annual Pony Moore cup on the 27th of April.
