With a packed pre-match lunch for this local derby there was plenty of supporters in attendance looking forward to an entertaining game.
Beccles were quickly in to their stride. Kauri fed Johnstone running a good line. Johnstone was stopped just short of the line but managed to reach out an arm to touch down.
Beccles continued to score during the half. First Hannam and then Harrison found space to round the Lowestoft defence and score.
Despite Beccles scoring regularly Lowestoft did have long periods of possession and territory of their own. At one point they kept Beccles pinned on their own line for five minutes. However, the Beccles defence was strong and they eventually forced the turnover and cleared their lines.
The half time score was 19-0.
The second half was a similar pattern to the first half. Lowestoft played some good rugby without breaking Beccles down, whilst Beccles continued to add to their try count.
New signing Rich Rhodes made his debut in the second half and was quickly on the score sheet breaking away to score under the posts. Hannam and Harrison both added their second of the game. Hannam with one of his trademark interception tries and Harrison showing extreme pace along the wing to outpace the covering defenders.
Kauri kicked four out of six conversions on the day to give a final score of 38 – 0. Man of the match was Skipper Gedney who carried and tackled hard all day.
Beccles 2s kicked off their newly restructured league campaign with a 15 – 27 loss to Norwich Union 2s. Beccles had tries from Calton and Sutton before Sisley snr set up Sisley jnr for another. Man of the match was Deroubaix.
