Beccles entertained Woodford at Beef Meadow, knowing a win would shoot the home side up from the foot of the table.

Woodford dominated the opening exchanges, converting a penalty from a Beccles infringement at the breakdown and missing another. Beccles, like always, played with plenty of heart and determination but were guilty of several handling errors. Beccles soon switched on and found themselves in their oppenents half. From a scrum, Rix broke off well and popped to Larrauri who in turn, chipped and dived over for a great try. However, this was not to be the case as the referee disallowed it for being held up, to the complete dismay of the crowd and both teams.

Beccles continued to dominate the territory game and were soon rewarded with a penalty which Wade converted. Cooper added himself to the ever increasing injury list with a calf problem, allowing Sale to return to first team duty after recovering from a fractured ankle. Some probing runs from Williamson and Long showed promising signs that tries were beckoning but this was not to be the case.

Before half time, Beccles had the chance to take the lead but the penalty attempt sailed just wide.

The second half began with a combination of questionable refereeing decisions and poor handling errors from the home side. This paved way for Woodford to play wide passing game that they love, creating the space to score the first try of the game. This was followed up by a further two penalties in quick succession making the score 14-3.

A long spell of possession from Beccles was rewarded with a lineout on the 5 metre line. From the set piece, a well worked lineout was driven over and again looked to be a certain try, but the referee deemed the ball to be held up.

Minutes later, Sale found Starks who carved through the line, he was supported well by Williamson who finished well, to give Beccles a much deserved try. The try was converted by Wade.

In the closing stages of the game, hopes of a Beccles comeback were dashed when Ling was sin binned for a shoulder charge. The Woodford kicker stepped up and converted to make the final score 17-10.

Skipper on the day and Medpac Man of Match was Ranga Porter had another strong game and lead from the front.
Although this game was a good chance to get a much needed win, all is not over as Beccles still need just one win to get themselves out of the dropzone.
