Beccles made it two wins in a row at the end of 2017 when they entertained Diss II on Saturday. In a hard fought game the power of the Beccles pack came out on top as they won by 19 – 12.

With a lot of standing water on the pitch the game was in danger of being called off. Some hard work the night before cleared most of the water off the pitch enabling the match to go ahead in boggy conditions.
Beccles were able to field a large pack who were able to get on top of their opposition in the mud. They were able to drive the Diss pack in the scrum and also made good ground driving from the lineout. They kept the ball well and opened the scoring with a Harmer penalty.
Diss managed to win some ball after this and unleash their dangerous backs. They scored their first try of the game out wide to take the lead.
Beccles hit back and pinned Diss in their twenty-two. After a number of scrums that were stopped just short of the line the ball was fed out. Holtzer collected a loose pass and stayed strong in the tackle to feed Harmer running a good line to score under the posts. He converted his own try.
It was Diss who finished the half with another score. Gedeney had his clearance kick charged down and as Cooper scrambled to clear the danger he took out the Diss scrumhalf and conceded a penalty try. This gave a half time score of 10 – 12.
In the second half Beccles continued to drive deep in to the Diss territory. Harmer edged them in to the lead with a penalty and then extended the lead with another one. Diss started running the ball and Beccles had to put in some desperate defence to keep them out.
They had a few chances to score but Beccles managed to keep them out. Beccles won another penalty which Harmer converted to put Beccles seven clear. This was enough and Beccles managed to see the game out to win by 19 – 12.
Man of the Match was Rix who was in his element in the muddy conditions.
After not being able to field a team recently the 2nd team were able to play their game at home to Wymondham. They lost by 38 – 5 but will be looking to build on this in the new year and continue to field teams regularly.
