Beccles had to make a number of changes with a few players unavailable. Lake, Adams and Payne came in to the pack with Bonner moving from centre to No8. Cooper replaced him in the centre.
The early stages of the game were tight. Beccles began to edge territory and possession with Puxley and Gedney kicking well. Harmer was looking dangerous at outside centre and from one of his breaks he opened the scoring. He cut through the first tackle and then rounded the winger to go over.
The second try came soon after. Again Harmer broke through, this time feeding inside to Cooper who finished off the move. Harmer added the conversion to lead 12 – 0 at half time.
The start of the second half saw Norwich Union upping their game. The Beccles defence was solid, with Man of the Match Arnold putting in some big hits around the park.
As the game moved in to the last ten minutes Norwich Union finally broke down the Beccles defence. A couple of unconverted tries got them within a score of Beccles. However, Beccles finished well and sealed the game with a score of their own.
Putting together a number of phases Beccles made it deep in to the Norwich Union twenty-two. When the ball was recycled Holtzer barrelled his was over from five yards. Harmer added the conversion to give a final score of 19 – 10.
Beccles travel to North Walsham 2’s on Saturday and will be looking to continue their winning run.
The second team unfortunately had to concede their match at Wymondham due to lack of players. They will be to be able to field a strong side this weekend when they have their first home game against Crusaders.
Anyone interested in playing rugby for Beccles should come along to a training session (Wednesdays at 19:30) or contact Coach Stuart Adams (07795 415028) for more details. All welcome whatever level of experience.
