A trip to the league leaders with a number of players unavailable was always going to be a difficult and so it proved. Chairman Hadridge was drafted in on the bench to make up numbers.
Beccles didn’t let Thetford have it all their own way in the first half. In fact Beccles took the game to their opposition for long periods. However, mistakes and missed tackles did allow Thetford in against the run of play. They got to four tries in the first half hour to secure the point they needed to win the league.
Beccles did manage to strike next. Cooper put Armstrong in space and when he was stopped short of the line Holtzer was in support to take the pass and crash over for his fifth try of the season. Thetford added one more before half time to give a half time score of 35-5.
In the second half Thetford were able to score more freely. Beccles did offer some periods of resistance but Thetford scored regularly. With a couple of minutes left they got to within a score of 100. Beccles put in one last effort to stop them reaching triple figures and held out for a final score of 96 – 5.
