With a number of people unavailable for various reasons a frantic Saturday morning was spent trying to field a team. Thirteen players were pulled together and Veteran coach Wayne Knight stepped up to make it up to fourteen.
Beccles started the game on the front foot with Dyer collecting the ball from the kick off and making good yards. Beccles forced a penalty which Gedney slotted to put Beccles in to the lead.
Beccles continued to play some good rugby and Thurston found it difficult to play out of their own half despite the extra man. However, as the game moved in to the second quarter a few missed tackles let Thurston in to the game. They added four tries, taking advantage of their extra man.
However, it was Beccles who finished the first half the best. After a number of carries towards the Thurston line Fisher was held up just short. The ball was recycled quickly and fed to Suchy. He drew the defender and put Girling in to score in the corner. Gedney added a good conversion to giv a half time score of 20 – 10.
Beccles continued to battle in the second half and continued to put some good phases of rugby together. However, Thurston continued to take advantage of the extra man and were able to add more tries. In the end the match finished 53 – 10.
This was a good battling performance by Beccles as they were a man down for the whole game. Man of the match was Bonner for his hard tackling and carrying.
