Beccles were able to field their strongest away squad of the season for the game and travelled hoping they could turn their improved recent performances in to a victory.
Woodbridge started strongly with a big home crowd cheering them on. They met a strong Beccles defence and struggled to break it down. After half an hour of near constant attacking they were only in front by 3 – 0. They did finally cross the line just before half time to give a half time score of 10 – 0.
After half time two penalties and an unconverted try stretched the lead but Beccles continued to make the opposition work hard for their points. Beccles were on top in the scrum and continued to tackle hard around the pitch.
As the game entered the final ten minutes Beccles began to tire from their defensive efforts. A quick lineout from Bonner was intercepted for a converted try and another soon followed to give a final score of 35 – 0.
Man of the Match was Luke Kelly on his return to the side.
Beccles now have a couple of weeks off for Christmas before resuming their league programme on 7th January at home to Bury 3rds. They will need to start turning performances in to wins if they want to move up the league in the New Year.
The second team finished the year with an 8-5 win against Lowestoft 2’s at Beef Meadow. A great performance by Tom Dyer and his team after a tough start to the season.
