With again a number of people unavailable for various reasons Beccles had to call up some of the more inexperienced players from the second team. Ashdown, Gardiner, Mason and Flynn all joined the club since the start of the season. They were all brought in for their first team debut on Saturday and all played well.
The first half of the game was well contested with Beccles giving as good as they got. Newmarket took the lead after a strong scrummage on the Beccles line and added another try soon after. Beccles created a couple of good chances of their own but couldn’t finish them off. As the half drew to a close Beccles began to miss a few tackles and Newmarket were able to score two more tries out wide. This gave a half time score of 24 – 0.
Newmarket added two more tries in the second half and Beccles weren’t able to make any chances of their own. However, Beccles continued to battle to the end. This was an improvement on the previous two away performances where heads went down and the opposition were able to score easily. The final score was 34 – 0.
The Man of the Match was Aaron Guy who deputised well at prop and put in some strong runs around the park.
This week Beccles entertain Royston in the RFU cup.
