Beccles started slowly and allowed Wymondham to take an early lead with a penalty and converted try. Beccles then started to work their way in to the game. Goode was dominating in the lineout and the scrum was also working well. They turned this in to points with their first try. Gedney broke through the defence and powered over for the try.
Wymondham added a penalty before Beccles scored again. A solid scrum, led by Man of the Match Stuart Adams, gave Beccles good ball. The ball went out to Yeowell who cut through the Wymondham defence and sprinted clear to score under the posts. He then converted his own try.
Wymondham added one more penalty before half time to stretch their lead to 16-12.
The first ten minutes of the second half were tightly contested but then mistakes started to creep in to the Beccles game. Wymondham were ruthless in the punishment of these mistakes and ran in five tries to win the game by 47 – 12.
This was a better performance by Beccles but they couldn’t maintain it for the whole game. They will need to work on putting together and eighty minute performance if they want to start picking up some wins. Beccles travel to Crusaders on Saturday looking to turn their season around.
The 2nd XV continued to struggle to put out a full side. They did manage to fulfil their fixture on Saturday at UEA, the home side helping to make up numbers for Beccles. The ten Beccles players who did play acquitted themselves well and enjoyed their game despite going down by 75-0 against a useful UEA side. The 2nd XV host Crusaders on Saturday.
