Beccles got off to a flying start with two quick tries to give them a 12-0 lead. Place continued his good form, grabbing his first try of the season after cutting through the Norwich defence. SHUCKSMITH also added to his tally after he ploughed through the Norwich defence to give Beccles a 12-0 lead, after an assist by MORTON.
Norwich 2XV didn’t give in to early Beccles pressure. They managed to put themselves into a good position in the Beccles half and scored out wide to cut the lead to 12-7.
The majority of the first half was very back forth, with both teams gaining and losing penalties at the breakdown.
However, on the brink of half time, BALDRY stormed through the Norwich defensive line from 15m out to score and give Beccles a more comfortable half time lead. Captain GEDNEY converted to make the half time score 19-7.
Head coach SWANBOROUGH stated at half time that Beccles had more to give. And they did just that when the game restarted.
Beccles were slicing through the Norwich defence, breaking tackles and finding gaps. KNIGHTS and PETCH were carrying especially strong and gaining valuable yards.
Colt player, MUTIMER, came on shortly after the start of the second half to make his senior and 1st team debut. Slotting in brilliantly into the Beccles team. MUTIMER was cutting through Norwich in open play and was solid in defence.
However, the next points were gained by MOTM FOBBESTER. After an offload, FOBBESTER found himself on the shoulder to run from 40m out, breaking tackles through the Norwich scrambled defence to score his first try of the season.
Beccles quickly extended their lead again. Straight off the restart, PLACE found BALDRY with a quick pass to go 20 meters through an emerging gap and push Norwich back onto their own 22m line. From here, scrum half BURLING sniped at the ruck from 22m on the blind and with the full back to beat, he stepped inside and found himself over for his third try of the season.
Beccles didn’t slow up there. After a superb run by HEWITT, PETCH, who had been carrying very strong all game, found himself once again smashing through the Norwich defence to go over and score.
GEDNEY had a great day off the boat, converting 4 of Beccles 6 tries. Making the final score 38-7 to Beccles.
Beccles 1XV are not due to play until the 12th of November when they welcome Crusaders at home.
However, Beccles 2XV host Lowestoft 2XV next week at home in the local derby.
