The boys in Green started very strongly, gaining territory and possession with incredible work rate, explosive tackles and powerful runs. The Tempo started to slow down after ten minutes, but the hard hits didn't with players from both sides being flung backwards.
Debutant Loader managed to get the first try of the game. He picked and go-ed on the weak blindside of a ruck, steamrolling the tackler and touching it down.
As the game progressed, silly errors kept hindering Beccles' progress. Needless offloads and triple misspasses were on display, but they had little tactical importance and gave Woodbridge a foot hold into the game. Beccles with the foot off the gas, Woodbridge were able to run in a few tries, most coming from Beccles' own errors.
Temm Kauri added to Beccles' score during the half. Giving a lead of 19-8 to the home team Woodbridge going into the second 40 minutes.
The second half began like the first half finished, Woodbridge continuing to tackle well and Beccles not being able to capitalise on line breaks or good territory. After conceding two more tries shortly after the break, Beccles finally switched back into gear and started to attack and defend with more authority. Mike Shucksmith started to carry well, the big number eight proving a hard man to take down.
With more than twenty minutes left in the second half, Loader was able to roll off three defenders and finish strong to get his and Beccles' second try of the game.
With plenty left on the clock, Beccles gave a valiant second effort to try get more points but were unsuccessful to do so. The game finished 29-15 to Woodbridge.
Winger; Harrison, went down injured for the away team and looks to be on the sidelines for the foreseeable future after playing well in the two preseason games. The Bulls will see potential in how they played on Saturday. Going forward they will be looking to play 'their style of play' for the whole game and not just the first and last twenty minutes.
Beccles start the new competitive season on September 14th, travelling to play an Ely side eyeing promotion from London Eastern Counties.
