Beccles knew they would be in for a tough game against a side who had a good season in the league above. This proved to be the case as Beccles struggled to come to terms with the large Southwold pack. Beccles made Southwold work for their win however. Beccles were camped on their line for the first twenty minutes of the game with the Southwold pack on top. The Beccles players kept flying in to the tackles and Southwold couldn't break them down. It wasn't until Beccles were a man down in the sinbin that they finally managed to force their way over.
Beccles did begin to come in to the game as an attacking force after this but never really threatened to Southwold line. It was SOuthwold who did manage to add another first half try.
The second half was a similar affair. Southwold took a penalty to stretch their lead before scoring another try. They didn't pull away though as they continued to come up against a solid Beccles defence. It wasn't till five minutes were left that they managed to add another try when Beccles finally missed a tackle. They then were able to add another couple of tries with a combination of some lucky bounces and tired defenders.
Despite conceding 20 points in the last five minutes Beccles were happy with their defensive performance as they made it very difficult for Southwold to break them down.
