The bulls started with the clear intent that this wasn’t going to be a walk over for the opposition with good rucking phases from the in form back row of Rix and Holmes. A good crash ball from Wade set up the perfect platform for the backs to run but the ball was lost and North walsham took advantage and pinned the Bulls back in their own 22 where following a lost line out Walsham drove a maul over the line to score with the extra’s added.
North Walsham then turned it up a gear maintaining solid possession and showing their class around the rucking area, however great fringe work from Coleman and Wilson kept them at bay for the time being. New centre partners Wade and Long closed down any efforts their backs made to crash the ball through the middle of the park forcing mistakes from their opponents. The platform was set again for the Bulls and Wade stepped up to add a penalty.
Offloading play from walsham found them moving into the Bulls 22 again late in the first half with their forwards managing to push mauls over the line 2 more times before the half came to a close, the score being 19-3
The second half started with newly found full back Harmer having to sit out due to injury. The Bulls showed great determination keeping the opponents out with defensive efforts from Cooper and Starks but the pressure got too much and walsham found gaps in the defence 2 more times with a wide spread balls to the wingers. Injury then struck Beccles with Cooper and Veasey-Lark both being forced off the field for the remainder of the game. This however saw the ever opportunist Lake move into his secondary position on the wing, with Starks now stepping in at fullback.
The Bulls started to show some great link play hitting the fringes hard with the likes of Ling and Rix which set up a great platform for the backs. Following a long miss pass Lake failed to run in a try but it was followed up by the in form scorer Davey-Duruk, extra’s added by wade. #
The match came to an end with the score of 31-10 to North Walsham but the Bulls have many positives to take from this performance with a massive defensive effort that rivals that even of the teams in leagues above. A fantastic spirited game from Beccles showing great determination, they now look to the game of the season against Old Streetonions which if won will give them a great chance of surviving the relegation battle.
